Convert XLSX to MOBI

Updated Jul 2026

Short answer

XLSX is the spreadsheet format most spreadsheet software saves in, and MOBI is the ebook format many older Kindles read. To convert, open the XLSX file in a converter and export it as MOBI, turning the data into a scrollable ebook for your Kindle. Doing it on your own computer means the file never leaves your machine.

When to convert, and when not to

Convert XLSX to MOBI when you want to read spreadsheet data, like a price list, reference table, or catalog, on an older Kindle without opening a laptop or spreadsheet software.

Keep the XLSX if you still need to edit the numbers, run formulas, or work across multiple sheets, since MOBI has none of that, it's just a flat, readable copy of the data.

Why not just use an online converter?

Spreadsheets often hold things people don't want strangers to see: budgets, client lists, salary figures, personal finances. Uploading one to a website to convert it means that data sits on someone else's server, even if only for a minute. Converting on your own computer keeps the spreadsheet, and everything in it, on your machine the whole time.

Questions

Does converting XLSX to MOBI keep the formulas?

No. MOBI is a flat ebook format, so formulas are gone, only the calculated values that were showing in each cell come through as text.

What happens to multiple sheets in the workbook?

Each sheet typically comes through as its own section, one after another, rather than as separate tabs you can click between.

Will formatting, like colors and borders, carry over?

Mostly no. MOBI keeps basic table structure and text, but cell colors, borders, and custom fonts don't survive the conversion.

Can I convert XLSX to MOBI without uploading it anywhere?

Yes. Morphjet converts the file on your own computer, so the spreadsheet never has to go over the internet.

Why would anyone want a spreadsheet as an ebook?

It's mainly for reading reference data, like a price list, glossary, or table of figures, on an e-ink Kindle screen without a laptop open.
