Convert XLSX to BMP

Updated Jul 2026

Short answer

Converting XLSX to BMP turns your spreadsheet into a flat picture of what's on the sheet, not an editable file. It's useful when you want to share how a table looks without handing over the underlying data or formulas. Morphjet renders the sheet and saves it as a BMP on your own computer, so nothing uploads.

How to convert XLSX to BMP

  1. Open Morphjet and drag in the XLSX file you want to convert, or a whole folder of spreadsheets at once.
  2. Choose BMP as the output format.
  3. Convert. Morphjet renders each sheet as a flat image and saves the BMP next to your original, all on your machine.

XLSX vs BMP: what actually changes

XLSXBMP
File sizeCompact, data stored efficientlyLarge, uncompressed image data, often far bigger than the spreadsheet
EditableYes, cells and formulas stay liveNo, it becomes a static picture you can't edit
What's preservedEvery formula, cell reference, and calculated valueOnly the visual appearance of the sheet at the moment you convert it
Opens inExcel or spreadsheet software (Numbers, Google Sheets)Any image viewer, on any computer or OS
QualityLossless, exact dataLossless too, a pixel-exact image, but a picture instead of data

When to convert, and when not to

Convert XLSX to BMP when you need a snapshot of a table for a document, slide, or older Windows program that only accepts bitmap images, and nobody needs to edit the numbers afterward.

Keep the XLSX if you or anyone else needs to sort, filter, recalculate, or edit the data, because none of that survives in a BMP.

Why not just use an online converter?

Spreadsheets often hold sensitive numbers, budgets, client lists, salaries. Uploading one to an online converter just to get an image means that data sits on someone else's server, even if only briefly. Converting on your own computer means the spreadsheet, and everything in it, never leaves your machine.

Questions

Does converting XLSX to BMP keep my formulas?

No. A BMP is just a picture of the sheet, so formulas, cell references, and any way to edit the numbers are gone. Keep the XLSX if you need the live data.

Why convert a spreadsheet to a bitmap image instead of a PDF?

BMP is useful when something specifically needs a plain, uncompressed image, like older Windows software or a particular print workflow. For sharing or printing a full spreadsheet, PDF is usually the better fit.

Will the BMP show everything on my sheet?

It captures what's visible in the sheet's used range. Very large spreadsheets that extend well beyond the printable area may need trimming first, since a BMP only shows a fixed view, not a scrolling one.

Is BMP a good format for spreadsheet screenshots?

It's lossless and simple, which makes it accurate, but the files are much larger than a JPG or PNG of the same image, since BMP doesn't compress. It's mainly useful for compatibility with older or specialized software.

Can I convert XLSX to BMP without uploading the file anywhere?

Yes. Morphjet converts it locally on your Mac or PC, so the spreadsheet never gets sent over the internet.
