Convert AZW3 to HTML

Updated Jul 2026

Short answer

AZW3 is Amazon's Kindle ebook format, and HTML is the format every web browser reads. To convert AZW3 to HTML, open the file in a converter and export it as HTML, turning the book into plain web pages. This can be done on your own computer without uploading the book anywhere.

How to convert AZW3 to HTML

  1. Open Morphjet and drag in the AZW3 ebook you want to convert. Add a single file or a whole folder of books at once.
  2. Choose HTML as the output format.
  3. Convert. The HTML file, along with its images, is written next to your original, and nothing leaves your machine.

When to convert, and when not to

Convert AZW3 to HTML when you want to read a book in a browser instead of a Kindle app, publish part of it on a website, or edit the text directly.

Keep the AZW3 if you're still reading on a Kindle device or app, since HTML won't carry over your bookmarks, reading position, or the built-in dictionary lookups.

Why not just use an online converter?

A Kindle library file can carry personal reading data, like the notes and highlights you've made, along with it. Sending that file to an online converter puts it, and whatever you've written in the margins, on a stranger's server. Converting on your own computer means the book, and your notes, never leave your machine.

Questions

Does converting AZW3 to HTML lose any quality?

The text and images themselves don't degrade, but Kindle-specific extras like page numbers, font choices, and the built-in dictionary don't carry over, since HTML has no concept of them. What you get is the book's content as a plain web page.

Will this work on Kindle books with DRM?

Only if the AZW3 file itself isn't DRM protected. Most books bought directly through Amazon carry DRM restrictions that block conversion of any kind, so this works best on books you've written yourself or that are already DRM-free.

Does the HTML keep the cover image and book details?

The cover usually comes along as a separate image file next to the HTML, and basic details like title and author are placed in the page's metadata. Your reading position and notes aren't carried over, since those live in the Kindle app, not the file.

Can I convert AZW3 to HTML without uploading the file anywhere?

Yes. A desktop app like Morphjet converts the file locally, so it never travels over the internet. You could do it with your wifi off.
