When to convert, and when not to
Convert AZW3 to MOBI when you need to read a book on an older Kindle or an app that only recognizes the Mobipocket format.
Keep the AZW3 original if you're reading on a newer Kindle or the Kindle app, since AZW3 supports formatting details that MOBI can't fully represent.
