Vector conversion

Convert SVG to PNG

Updated Jul 2026

Short answer

SVG is a vector format that stays sharp at any size, while PNG is a fixed-resolution image that most upload fields, presentations, and apps expect. To convert, open the SVG in a converter, choose the pixel dimensions you need, and export as PNG. Doing this on your own computer means the file never has to leave your machine.

How to convert SVG to PNG

  1. Open Morphjet and drag in the SVG file, or a whole folder of them, you want to convert.
  2. Choose PNG as the output format and set the pixel dimensions you need, since PNG is a fixed size rather than a scalable one.
  3. Convert. The PNGs are written next to your originals, and nothing leaves your machine.

SVG vs PNG: what actually changes

SVGPNG
Scales without losing qualityYes, sharp at any sizeNo, locked to the pixel size you export
File sizeVery small, often just a few KBLarger, especially at high resolution
Opens everywhereMostly in browsers and design tools; some upload fields and older apps block itYes, universal support
TransparencyYesYes
Editable as textYes, it's readable markupNo, it's a grid of pixels
QualityLossless at every sizeLossless, but fixed to the size you chose on export

When to convert, and when not to

Convert SVG to PNG when you need a fixed-size image for a place that doesn't accept vector files, like most upload fields, slide decks, or a specific app icon size.

Keep the SVG if the logo or icon still needs to resize across different screens, because once it's a PNG it's locked to one resolution.

Why not just use an online converter?

Logos and icons saved as SVG are often unreleased branding or client work, and running one through a random online converter means uploading it to someone else's server before you get a PNG back. Converting on your own computer skips that step entirely, so the SVG and the PNG it becomes never leave your machine.

Questions

Does converting SVG to PNG lose quality?

Not in the way JPG loses quality. PNG is lossless, so whatever size you export at, the image is crisp. The catch is you have to pick that size upfront, since unlike SVG, a PNG can't be enlarged later without getting blurry.

What size PNG should I export?

It depends where you're using it. For a website icon, something like 512x512 pixels is common; for print or a large banner, you'll want a much higher resolution. Morphjet lets you set the pixel dimensions before converting.

Why won't some sites accept my SVG file?

SVG files can contain embedded code, so some upload fields and platforms block them for security reasons and only accept raster images like PNG. Converting to PNG sidesteps that restriction.

Will the PNG keep transparency from the SVG?

Yes. If the SVG has a transparent background, the PNG will too, as long as you don't flatten it onto a solid background during export.

Can I convert SVG to PNG without uploading it anywhere?

Yes. A desktop app like Morphjet converts the file locally, so it never touches an outside server. That matters if the SVG is a logo or design that isn't public yet.
