Convert MOBI to PDF

Updated Jul 2026

Short answer

MOBI is the ebook format used by older Kindle devices, and PDF is the fixed-layout document format that opens the same way on any phone, laptop, printer, or e-reader. To convert, open the file in a converter and export it as PDF. Doing this on your own computer means the book never touches someone else's server.

How to convert MOBI to PDF

  1. Open Morphjet and drag in the MOBI file you want to convert. Add one book or a whole folder of them at once.
  2. Choose PDF as the output format.
  3. Convert. The PDF is written next to your original, and nothing leaves your machine.

When to convert, and when not to

Convert MOBI to PDF when you want to read a book on a device that isn't a Kindle, print pages out, or open it on any computer without installing a separate ebook reader.

Keep the MOBI if you're staying inside the Kindle ecosystem, since PDF locks in a fixed page layout and the text won't reflow to fit smaller screens the way MOBI does.

Why not just use an online converter?

Old MOBI ebooks are sometimes personal, a manuscript, a family recipe collection, a book you'd rather not have logged anywhere. Free online converters ask you to upload the file, which means a copy passes through a server you don't control. Converting on your own computer keeps the book, and what it says about what you read, entirely on your machine.

Questions

Does converting MOBI to PDF lose quality?

No. Both formats are lossless, so the text and images come through exactly. The main change is that PDF locks the pages into a fixed layout instead of MOBI's reflowable text.

Will the PDF reflow like the MOBI did on my Kindle?

No. PDF uses fixed pages, so the text won't resize to fit a phone or tablet screen the way MOBI does on an e-reader. It reads better on a full-size screen or on paper.

Can I still open MOBI files on a newer Kindle?

Not directly. Amazon has dropped MOBI support on newer Kindle devices and its send-to-device service, which is one reason people convert older MOBI libraries to something more universal like PDF.

Can I convert MOBI to PDF without uploading it anywhere?

Yes. Morphjet converts the file on your own computer, so it never travels over the internet. You can do it with your wifi off.
